Why is my pool green?
- First, your chlorine level could have dropped which gives the
chance for algae to grow in your swimming pool. If your chlorine
is high then what could have happened is that most algae is
transported from one swimming pool to another by swimmers,
most algae is airborne, and can come from the beaches/oceans.
- Second, you could have a trace of copper in your pool water that
can come from well water. We recommend that you use our Scale
Inhibitor in order to lock up the copper residual in your swimming
pool. This product puts a protective coating around the copper
particles in your water making it impossible for the chlorine to
react with them to turn your pool green.
Why should a pool owner be on a pool care program?
By putting your pool on a program, you can establish a systematic maintenance
plan that keeps your water prepared for whatever the season brings - erratic
water conditions, heavy bather loads, rising temperatures, and so forth.
Payne Pools & Spas has the products and all of the steps in order
to help you keep sparkling clear water and ready for swimming.
What is Free-Available Chlorine?
Free Available Chlorine (FAC) is the active chlorine in the water that has not
combined with organic matter and is available for killing bacteria and algae.
The proper range for a FAC is 1.0-4.0 ppm. Below 1.0 ppm could cause swimmer
irritation, cloudy water, and even allow algae to grow.
What is pH?
It's the way to measure how acidic or alkaline your pool water might be. This is
the most important part of chemical balancing because it protects the equipment,
allows the sanitizer to do its best job and increase swimmer enjoyment. Your
ideal pH range is 7.4-7.6
What is Total Alkalinity (TA)?
Total Alkalinity acts as a pH buffer. pH and the total alkalinity
can be affected by environmental factors such as acid rain, pollution,
run-off from the
surrounding land, and fertilizers. Your ideal TA range is 125-150
ppm.
What is calcium hardness (CH)?
Calcium hardness is the amount of dissolved calcium in the
water. Your pool is just like your body, it has to have a certain amount
of calcium in the water, if
not it will find other places to pull it from. Such as your
liner, a lack of calcium in the water could cause pimples in your liner
from where the water
has sucked the calcium out of it.
